Fred Profeta

FRED R. PROFETA, JR., President has more than twenty-five years of experience shaping sustainability programs that enage municipalities and the public. He provides high-level strategic guidance to municipal, non-profit and corporate clients. Among his principal areas of expertise are renewable energy, municipal sustainability program development and community participation and engagement. In 2010, Profeta received the New Jersey Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award in the Environmental Leadership Category.

As the Mayor of Maplewood Township in New Jersey from 2004-2008 and the Deputy Mayor for the Environment and Township Committee member from 2009-present, Profeta is widely credited for his environmental achievement on the local scene and across New Jersey. In Maplewood, this focus found its way into many municipal documents and projects, including Redevelopment Plans, construction of a LEED certified Police Station, and creation of an Environmental Action Plan. Maplewood was named a “Climate Champion of the Year” by Clean Air-Cool Planet in 2007, and received an EPA award for environmental excellence in 2008. Maplewood was named as one of New Jersey’s “five greenest towns” by Inside Jersey in its February 2009 edition.

Profeta founded and served as Chair of the state-wide Sustainable Jersey Mayors’ Committee, a standing committee of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities. It was his vision to create a municipal certification program with actions, tools and incentives. During his tenure, the Mayors’ Committee partnered with the Municipal Land Use Center at The College of New Jersey to produce Sustainable Jersey, an innovative new certification program for New Jersey municipalities. Profeta speaks widely around the state to promote Sustainable Jersey and he presented at the 2009 Local Government Climate Change Leadership Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark.  Fred holds a B.A. from Yale University, and an LL.B. and LL.M. from Harvard Law School
